My Comment :

I actually finished watching this drama last year but when I started set up this blog I forgot to put in this one. Anyway, despite its high popularity among my fellow K-drama lovers, I found it just so-so. The chemistry between Ryu Soo Young and Park Sun Young were good but the plot was a bit draggy to me. That’s why I couldn’t even remember the detail of the storyline now. So, I just share the OST.

Han Eun-young works as a clerk at a bank, trying to pay off the debts her step-mother and sister have piled on her. Kim Young-hoon is your regular, ‘Average Joe’, worker. He provides for his father, his older brother and his wife, as well as his younger brother.
One day, PD Yoo Jin-ha is asked to take over the project, “Marry a Millionaire”. Reluctantly, he agrees to handle the project. His search begins for the perfect man to play the ‘millionaire’. His goal is to use a man who is an average worker, but can pull off the facade of a millionaire. Kim Young-hoon is that man. Although he works hard for a living, there are many who can easily mistake him for a rich guy.
By chance, Eun-young is selected to be a participant in the TV show. Although the women are not supposed to know that this millionaire of their’s is just a regular worker, Eun-young knows his true identity.
    How?
Simple. Young-hoon was her first love. After many years, they meet up again at a party. Although she didn’t recognize him at first, she realized it was the young boy she had fallen in love with back in middle school. My Comment :

I have this drama actually since last year but I was lazy to give it a go because the story line did not really interest me. I just finished watched it recently and it’s like what I guess, the storyline is a bit slow but the chemistry between Kim Hyun Joo and Go Soo is good. The OSTs are good as well.

The drama is purely love story and these are further information for the synopsis.

Young Hoo was a nice and good looking guy but unfortunately he was poor and slow thinking.  His good look was also the reason that made Eun Young had a crush on him, back to their school times, and even wrote him a love letter but then, she lost the feeling after knowing the fact that he was not a bright student. Young Hoo never knew that Eun Young looked down upon his ability. For him, she was the first love that he always remembered.

Years later, Eun Young and Young Hoo coincidentally met again. The meeting rekindled Young Hoo’s feeling to Eun Young while Eun Young tried to avoid him. Young Hoo was heartbroken when he accidentally heard Eun Young’s humiliating comment on him.

When he had a chance to participate in a Joe Millionaire-like reality TV show, he planned to use the opportunity to win Eun Young’s love through it. He did it partly because it was the suggestion of the PD of the show,Yoo Jin Ha. Less that he knew that PD Yoo was making use of them for the show. He was interested in Young Hoo and Eun Young after accidentally knew about their relation. The people behind the show made up a story that Young Hoo was a heir of a rich family. Even Eun Young was made to believe it. Through the show, PD Yoo seemed like wanted to see if Eun Young was a real material girl. Would she turned to Young Hoo again when he knew that he was a millionaire? Or Was true love exist between them?

For some time, Eun Young was really drawn to Young Hoo until she knew the fact. Her feeling to Young Hoo kept on changing between love him or love him not whereas Young Hoo stayed the same, except that he was now decide to use his own way to express his love.

Slowly but sure, Young Hoo’s sincerity and true love moved Eun Young. But it was a bit late when she realized her own feeling. It was as if she had her own karma for what she did to Young Hoo before. She had to go through the rough path to win Young Hoo back and made him believe that she truly loved him.

MV Golden Apple – Kyung Ku And Hong Yun Sad Love Theme

    December 13, 2008 · Leave a Comment

    This is a fanmade MV
Song : The OST “(Tae Yang Eul Sarang Han) Ul Eum Ggot – Lee & ”
Clips : Kyung Ku and Hong Yun’s scenes from K-Drama “Golden Apple” (KBS-2005)

    My Comment :
I used the translation of the song as the other title of the MV. I am not sure if it is correct though because I got it with the help of language tool (Babelfish).
    Spoiler Alert!
Anyway, the song sounds very sad just like the sad love story of Kyung Ku and Hong Yun. It was a childhood friendship that turned to become love when they  grew up. However, they faced the opposition from Hong Yun’s rich family. Her dad, who was a high rank officer in a intelligence bureau, tried to separate Hong Yan and Kyung Ku and let her married to other rich family. However, Hong Yun chose to elope with Kyung Ku. When they finally get caught by Hong Yun’s dad, he wanted to get Kyung Ku in jail. Kyung Sook tried hard to safe his brother’s life. She sent Kyung Ku to US when he got the scholarship to study there. Meanwhile, Hong Yun was forced into an arranged married.

However, when her new husband knew that she was pregnant with Kyung Ku’s child (as the result of their elopement), he abused her, made her suffer from miscarriage and sent her home. Sad Hong Yun later became depressed and sent to asylum.

As there was a political change in the country, Hong Yun’s dad was stripped from his position and they became poor, whereas Kyung Ku backed to Korea as a successful person. Together with him, there was also a girl from a rich family, Hee Young, whom he met in the US.

Seeing that in the past, his love had made all the people around him suffered, he chose to start a new life as what his family expected him to be. He once visited Hong Yun but later not anymore since his sister disagreed. Then, he plan to marry Hee Young but everything changed after Hong Yun’s dad revealed his past to Hee Young’s dad.

Hee Young  later wanted to forgive Kyung Ku with a condition that he followed her back to US. However, Kyung Ku refused since he did not want to leave his sister and brother. Knowing that Hee Young angry with Kyung Ku because of their past, Hong Yun met Hee Young to clear the misunderstanding. It was during the meeting that Hee Young finally understood how deep and unselfish Hong Yun’s love to Kyung Ku and that she was actually always in Kyung Ku’s heart. That’s why she finally chose to leave and let Kyung Ku and Hong Yun unite.

At first, I was a bit disappointed why the scriptwriter made Kyung Ku forgot about Hong Yun. He somehow has his share in causing Hong Yun suffer in her life. He only visited him once and then listen to his family to not see her anymore even though Hong Yun waited for him everyday. However, finally I understand that it was better for Hong Yun to recover from her mental illness not because of Kyung Ku but because of her own willing to live again.

    My Comment :

Actually I watched this drama because I currently like Kim Ji Hoon. After watching him in Why Did You Come To My House/Wanted Son In Law,I started to look for his other dramas. However, beside him there are also my other favorite actors here. They are Park Sol Mi, which I first knew from K-drama ALL IN (SBS-2003)but started to like her after watching Bad Girls (SBS-2002), and Ji Hyun Woo. The lead actor of this drama are Park Sol Mi and Jung Chan.

The story line is kind of slow pace at the beginning and started at the year 1967 when the lead characters were still young. Also, the characters talked in dialect. I just found it more interesting when they were all grown up. In the drama the bad deed of the older generation made the younger ones suffered, hurt their lives and their love ones.

The three sibling Kyung Sook, Kyung Ku and Kyung Min lived a very hard life after their dad died but they were very close to each others. Both the younger brothers (Kyung Ku and Kyung Min) respected their older sister, Kyung Sook very much. Kyung Sook sacrificed her youth to work in a kind of a night club to raise her brothers. She did not entertain the guests at the club though. She started from washing clothes for the ladies there, until she finally became the manager.

I like the sibling relationship.Even though he had been successful after graduated from US, Kyung Ku was never ashamed with his sister’s job. He even honestly told about her sister to his boss, who also happened to be his new girlfriend’s dad. Among the three siblings. Kyung Min was the cheerful ones. He had not been highly educated as he had to concede to Kyung Ku but he got the job he loved, as a singer in a cafe.
