My Comment :

This drama is a male dominated drama and a heavy stuff. It completely has no funny scenes and just a very little love story that  you can ignored. All the female characters can be said have no important roles here.  In addition, the idealism of being a good doctor like what I often see in most medical dramas are hardly exist in White Tower. It sometimes makes me wondering why it is so few good people in this drama since almost all of the characters, both old and young are so power hungry. Yet, White Tower is a well written story and a really good drama with great cast member.

The first halves of this drama which told the story about how Joon Hyoek make his way to become the department head, was a little bit bored me. I guess that’s because I always fond of light drama, whereas this drama was so serious and I had to follows the dialogue to be able to understand the storyline.

The drama started to attract me in its second halves. it thrilled me so much to the point that I wish I could finished it in one sit if only I had enough time. The second half was about Joon Hyoek started to hit the downturn of his career after successfully become a head department just for a short time. In this part, he was sued by his deceased patient’s family for negligence. That’s why many of the scenes were focused on trial.

This patient was from the common people with no power nor money. They had no intention to after the money in the lawsuit but just the truth and honesty from the doctors and hospital to reveal to them what caused this man to die. However it seemed so hard to them to fight against this powerful people in the hospital. Those people did what they could to cover up things in supporting Joon Hyoek. The testimony was altered to win the case. Although behind that, it seemed like   power was still the main motive they did so.  Joon Hyoek’s position was benefited to them and if something went wrong, their position might be at risk. Luckily there were Do Young and Yoon Jin, two of the few characters in this drama who stayed true to their conscience. They were not afraid to take the risk to support the victim in the name of truth. This second halves really raised my curiosity. It made me eager to know what would happen. Would the truth  be revealed and justice be served?

Kim Myung Min is really outstanding in playing Joon Hyoek. I hate him and never turn to like him till the end of the drama but still I fell sympathy for him seeing how he ended up. Joon Hyoek was a very complex character. He was a very ambitious person. In order to achieve what he aimed for, he was not reluctant to do whatever it might take even though if that meant he had to kneel down to his enemies and betrayed his friends.

His relationship with his friends and enemies were unique as well. Following his story you might wondering if the people around him, except Do Young, stood by his side and  supported him  just because he had something offered to them in return. However, in the end of the drama, it showed that, Joon Hyoek was indeed a character that the people around him hated but also loved. I was really surprise to see how those people reacted when he was found suffering a fatal disease. They sincerely tried hard to save him and not to let him know the truth in order to protect him. When he died, everybody cried for him including those people who once betrayed by him.
